These are the days

It was December 2011, the year I would leave teaching in Vietnam, bring my ‘life partner’ Ben with me to South Africa and visit the US for the first time. This visit had my first American Christmas in store, an engagement and a trip to these hot springs in middle of nowhere Idaho. So saying I have a sentimental attachment to visiting these hot springs would be true. What makes this place even more special is that we were able to bring myparents here in the summer. 

I thought about all these things on our short trip there with our relatively new and special friends. Then I thought about how I was thinking about that. I thought about that because I didn’t want to get too caught up in the past, memories and the general melancholy that is time flying by at an uncontrollable speed. Here I am, two days later, fondly looking at these pictures, thinking about that rustic cabin, the forehead game and the ‘had to be there’ moments shared with amazing people… Now I simply think and believe that ‘these are the days’. 

Aren’t they just?

Last week this time...

Every night, as I turn off my bedside lamp and kiss my best friend good night I start thinking about this ol blog of mine, and oh, if you could only read what I think I'll write here the next day and then never do. Nino over at Text Sketches spoke about keeping a notepad by her bedside table a few weeks ago... I should do that.

While I'm not here to share one of those brilliant posts with you as I envision before I fall asleep, I am here to share with you what I was up to last week this time. I still haven't decided if that feels like a really long or short time ago. I think this time of year just messes with me. Like Christmas, it basically just ended like, what, two months ago?

We're trying to get as much camping and outdoors with out snow stuff crammed into these last few weekends before The Cold hits. Well camping and yard sales but more on that on a later post. So I was just so thrilled when the lovely Katie from Chestnut Mocha  and her husband Ben agreed that we four should go camping. Here are a few kiekies (photos) from last weekend this time.  We can't wait to do Fall-y things with them these coming months, like going to the corn-maze! We went camping at Green Bay, Idaho. Which is a little gem of a place if you can get over the bee problem. It's tricky to find and not the best road,but campsites are a) free!!! and b) spacious and close to this gorgeous body of water. A win for sure, we'll be back (with anti-bee things).

Summer Winter

Same place, different seasons.

Little did I know that when I was here over a year ago that I'd soon get engaged to my best friend (that same trip in NYC), move to the Northwest USA and eventually bring my parents here in glorious summer time. Isn't life just the grandest/strangest?  The seasons have been good to me.

short road trip

as part of celebrating thanksgiving weekend in our own way/ going to a place where you can't hear christmas jingles we decided on a very short but satisfying road trip to Couer de lane. you know just to go see what's there. because we deeply love our roadtrips even the quickies.
